Saving the Hundred Acre Wood
A Treasure Beyond Measure
For the past 15 years, Dean and Dudley Evenson, Soundings co-founders, have been working to save a beautiful second growth urban forest near their home and studio in Bellingham, Washington. They have created this documentary video that illuminates the issues involved. Since 1990 they have interviewed many people in their community with a special focus on geologists, biologists, and environmentalists who have an understanding of the values and functions of this land and the problems that would be created for the wetlands and the community if it were developed. A few years ago, they were part of a group who ran a successful Greenways levy that is raising $20 million to preserve open space and trails in their town. Unfortunately the Hundred Acre Wood was not among the lands purchased at that time so now they are working with a group called Responsible Development that is very active in preserving this forested wetland. This video tells the story of the efforts to preserve this very special forest. See below for information on the video files.
