What is the Earth Resonance Frequency (ERF)?
The music of the SOUND HEALING SERIES created by Dean Evenson & the Soundings Ensemble has the added value of including the Earth Resonance Frequency within the mix. This sub-audio tone of 7.8 hertz is the vibration of the Earth's atmospheric cavity and can be felt but not heard. Our brain goes into an alpha state under the influence of this original frequency; our nervous system fires at close to this frequency. Dolphins, whales and crickets use this frequency to communicate with.
Studies have shown that the effect of this frequency on the human system is significant and when we are in the presence of the Earth Resonance Frequency, our human nervous system is triggered back to the basic alpha state, in which a person is awake and alert yet calm and receptive to healing. Soundings of the Planet has included the ERF in its recordings to enhance the peaceful state that the music creates and alos to help people get in touch with the earth itself. Through aligning with this original frequency of the planet, we support our own healing as well as that of the Earth.
Here is one paper from Stanford that has done some research on the
entrainment of the brain state to outside stimulus. Page 53 covers the Monaural Beat stimulation as well as the effects of Binaural Beat stimulation which are covered elsewhere in the paper.
This study is not Earth Resonance specific and covers general alpha and other brain wave stimulation studies We have chosen to use Monaural Beat Stimulation (based on amplitude of the beat) because it is effective whether one has a stereo playback system or a monaural system. It also seems to be more effective (no hard data yet) than binaural stimulation. We have chosen the earth resonance frequency because it is totally natural for the planet we live on.

Listening to Audio Samples
Audio samples are provided in MP3 format on Soundings.com. If you are having a problem playing the audio samples, here are a few tips for getting them to play properly:
- Make sure you have a sound card in your computer, and that it is working properly
- Make sure you have either speakers or a set of headphones plugged into your sound card
- Make sure you have the volume turned up (not muted)
- Make sure you have an audio player such as Real Player, Winamp, Quicktime, or Windows Media Player.
- If you are unable to get a sample clip to play by left-clicking it, try to right-click (PC-only) and choose "Save target as." Save the file locally and then attempt to launch it again.
How do I purchase music?
There are a few ways one can go about purchasing cd's on soundings.com, depending on what you are looking for.
- On the left hand side of the screen you should see 3 boxes below the header MUSIC FINDER.
- Here you can search by: TITLE, ARTIST & CATAGORY.
Lets say you are looking for SEDONA SUITE by Tom Barabas on CD, click in the TITLE box and drag your mouse down until you find SEDONA SUITE listed.
You will soon see the page designated for SEDONA SUITE.
- Click the ADD CD TO SHOPPING BASKET button. (It is located below the album graphic.)
You will be brought to the SHOPPING BASKET screen. Here you can either:
- Continue shopping by repeating the above steps. OR
- Click the CHECKOUT button and follow the steps to enter the necessary shipping and payment information.
I want to buy more than one of the same item, how do I do that?
- First - Make sure you are the SHOPPING BASKET screen. If you are not, click the CHECK BASKET below the shopping basket header on the left hand side of the screen.
- Second - Click in the box marked QUANTITY on the line of the specified title, and select the desired quantity.
- Third - Click the UPDATE button.
